# Blood Test Watchdog > Independent comparison of US consumer blood testing (longevity memberships such as Function Health and Superpower, at-home kits, and lab-test stores such as Quest, Labcorp OnDemand and Ulta): which lab runs the samples, who reviews results, privacy, state availability, and the real price per year and per measured biomarker, checked against each provider's own pages. Blood Test Watchdog is independent. Some programs pay us a commission when a reader signs up; that never changes a score (price 30%, transparency 25%, care 20%, access 15%, reputation 10%). Every price links to the provider page it was read from. Prices last checked October 31, 2026. ## Key facts - Top-scored: Function Health: score 9.0/10, from $365/year (yearly membership, auto-renews), drug type not stated, medication in price: not stated - Second: Superpower: score 8.8/10, from $199/year (yearly membership, auto-renews), drug type not stated, medication in price: not stated - Third: Empirical Health: score 8.6/10, from $190/year (one-time payment), drug type not stated, medication in price: not stated - Lowest all-in yearly price we found: $99 at LetsGetChecked (Diabetes & Heart Test, one-off kit) - Programs compared: 21 - Who regulates consumer blood tests: Every US lab that tests human samples needs a CLIA certificate from CMS; it shows the lab meets quality standards, not that a test is useful for you. CLIA requires a test request from an authorized person and leaves it to each state to say who that is, so New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island restrict direct-access testing and Maryland requires a physician's order. The FDA's 2024 rule on laboratory-developed tests was vacated by a federal court on March 31, 2025, and the FDA formally rescinded it in September 2025. Home collection devices remain FDA-regulated devices. - Measured, or calculated?: Marker counts often include ratios worked out from other results (cholesterol ratios, HOMA-IR, eGFR) and second draws. Our counts take those out, and our cost per marker divides by measured markers only. - Which lab runs it?: Quest, Labcorp and BioReference run most of these tests. A provider that will not name its lab, or a lab you cannot find on the CMS QCOR CLIA lookup, is a reason to ask before you pay. - The yearly price, all in: A monthly kit at $79 is $948 a year. Add required fees: Quest's $6 physician fee per order, SiPhox's $25 shipping per cycle, Everlywell's $15 review, Mito's draw fee. Our prices are per year with those added. - Your state changes the price: New York and New Jersey members pay more at Superpower and Empirical, and Function and Hims say the lab bills an extra fee there. Lab-test stores do not sell in NY, NJ or RI. - Does a clinician review results?: Some services include a clinician review or a consult; some only have a physician sign the order. Each review says which, quoting the provider. - Who sees your data?: The lab is covered by HIPAA for the test; the app you buy from often is not. Check whether the privacy policy allows advertising use or the sale of de-identified data. - Renewal and refunds: Most memberships auto-renew at the then-current price, and most refund nothing once blood is drawn. InsideTracker needs 30 days' notice before renewal. - At-home kits test less: Finger-prick and upper-arm kits measure fewer markers and some are less reliable than a venous draw. Good for tracking a few markers; repeat a surprising result at a lab. ## Core pages - [Best blood testing services](https://bloodtestwatchdog.com/best): every program ranked on our published score - [Prices](https://bloodtestwatchdog.com/cost): lowest all-in yearly price per program and per treatment, with sources - [Find my match](https://bloodtestwatchdog.com/quiz): a short quiz that returns three programs - [Compare](https://bloodtestwatchdog.com/compare): every program side by side in pairs - [How we score](https://bloodtestwatchdog.com/methodology): the exact scoring rules - [Price Index](https://bloodtestwatchdog.com/price-index): cheapest and median yearly price over time ([JSON](https://bloodtestwatchdog.com/price-index.json)) - [Full data](https://bloodtestwatchdog.com/llms-full.txt) · [JSON](https://bloodtestwatchdog.com/providers.json) · [CSV](https://bloodtestwatchdog.com/providers.csv) ## MCP server (for AI assistants) - [Blood Test Watchdog MCP server](https://bloodtestwatchdog.com/api/mcp): free, read-only remote MCP endpoint (streamable HTTP, no key, no sign-up).
